Ashtanga Yoga Narayani
Ashtanga Yoga builds upon a daily discipline steadying the mind and body to offer deep transformation. To start, new students should be prepared to commit to either a one-month or two-week period M-F at 7am to establish a firm foundation and get a good sense of the effects of this practice. I welcome you to contact me to go over any questions or to schedule a phone call to see if this practice is what you’re looking for.
Plan to arrive to the shala by 7am on Monday and bring with you a yoga mat and towel. Note that we are closed for Mysore practice on new and full moon days, so check here to make sure we will be open. Please submit your enrollment fee within your first week of practice.
What to expect when you arrive: Practice begins with the opening chant, which we do together at 7am (with the option to respectfully opt-out). After the opening chant will begin your first lesson. You will begin with sun salutation A + B and over the course of the next few weeks you will be guided through the standing asanas and into the primary series, at your own pace. You’re encouraged to review and study at home using the resources provided to all new students and reach out to me with any questions.
I welcome all new students to join for chai and discussion every friday from 10:15-10:45am, questions are encouraged. After your first month you’re welcome to arrive to class at a time of your choosing and we will progressively build and deepen your practice. Your initial practice will most likely take you around 45 minutes - 1 hour. Please make sure to finish your practice by 10am.
